“I see you’ve mentioned drop-off, what does that mean exactly?”
We recognize that part of being a homeschool co-op is pooling resources, time, and camaraderie to allow for new opportunities and sometimes a break in our homeschool week. Since we are a co-op we ask that all involved parents commit to being active as on-campus volunteers at least 4 hours per month to maintain the mission and keep the co-op running efficiently. If you cannot assist on Mondays or Wednesdays we ask that you fulfill a different role i.e., fundraising, assisting the board, leading Atrium on Fridays etc.
“When you say drop-off at 8am Mass, what do you mean?”
8am daily mass at St. Thomas is required for the Wednesday/Friday Co-op day. We offer drop-off, as needed, at daily mass for children ages 4-13. We also strongly encourage attending daily mass with your children if at all possible. Young ones can be dropped off at Morning Opening immediately following mass, as needed.
“What curriculum do you have planned and how does that work as a co-op?”
Collectively a group of expert homeschool mothers have determined our curriculum for the upcoming year. Based on prayer, experience, and parent feedback we have narrowed in our focus to the specific subjects listed below in addition to the Montessori/CGS experience for younger children.
Science
Mathematics
History/Literature
Fine Arts (Drama, Choir, Art)
Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) for ages 10+
Families are meant to fill-in-the-gaps at home on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday afternoons and as they see fit to meet the needs of their specific child(ren). We have resources available to recommend for those who are interested in more (i.e., handwriting/cursive, language arts, reading etc).
We also intend to share our gifts and talents as parents and to teach children cooking classes, knitting, wood-working among other things as time allows.
“Are there standardized testing/transcripts involved?”
No, as a homeschool co-op we leave things like testing/grading and transcripts to the parents as the primary educators. Children DO take one placement test for math specifically (upon registration) and as a co-op we will work with parents when seeking the best fit for their child(ren). There may be tests or quizzes administered but these are for informational purposes only.
"What can we do to help?!”
Oh my goodness, there’s so much to do! We are incredibly grateful for the families who have come on board this past year and are looking forward to another great year of homeschooling cooperatively. Interested in the specifics of volunteering? Find out more HERE! Beyond that, simply pray for us or DONATE if you feel called to do so.
